Marsh Creates Marine & Energy Practice in Asia
Marsh in Asia today announced it has amalgamated its Marsh Marine Asia and its Energy practices into one Asia "super practice", which will be based in Singapore.
The new Marine and Energy (M&E) practice will consist of approximately 50 people based in region across 12 countries – making it by far the largest Asia M&E division of any broker.

Led by Matthew Simmonds, Marsh's former Thailand head who has spent almost all of his career as an M&E specialist, the group will be more effectively aligned with Marsh's M&E London practice to deliver Asia clients simultaneous access to both London and Asia markets. |
"Of course, London is the traditional placement point for Asia shipping business but in the last few years we have seen a swing away from London to Asia, and back again. Marsh recognises that Asia shipping companies need to be serviced in both markets and has changed our operations to properly deliver this," says Marsh's Chairman and Chief Executive, Asia, David Batchelor.
| The company’s well known Asia Marine Chairman, Tony Lau, was yesterday named Vice-Chairman and General Manager of Marsh’s China operations, which will allow him less opportunity for regional marine involvement. Lau will continue though with the responsibility of major client relationships in the new M&E practise. |

Among the changes are several new appointments including high profile industry personality Nick Sansom, who is the current managing director South East Asia for Thomas Miller, which acts as managers of the UK P&I Club and the TT Club. Sansom will head up Marine Hull, P&I and Port Risks for Marsh in the region. Securing Sansom is seen as a real |

"We are extremely excited to have Nick Sansom joining us in our Asia Marine and Energy practise, says Batchelor. “We see that the amalgamation to one M&E practice and our new appointments will improve Marsh’s strength, depth and market penetration in Asia.”
| Other appointments include present Marsh Marine incumbent Paul Houston to head of cargo and logistics; Colin Robinson who has transferred in from London bringing 30-plus years of regional and London experience in cargo and logistics. |

Ten-year Marsh veteran, Nick Hurrell, has been appointed head of energy broking and Dick Barton will continue as head of engineering and risk management. Both Barton and Hurrell have been with Marsh in Asia since 2002. |
“I am proud to be working with a team that has such strength and depth, says Simmonds. “Gone are the days when you can service Asia clients by sending someone in from London. You need people on the ground that understand Asia and understand our clients, as well as have global capabilities, to be able to advise clients here in the best way.”
